History of the House

Crubenbeg House- RuinsAs far as we know, a house has stood on this site for over 200 years.

The first farmhouse burnt down in 1866, claiming the lives of 2 elderly spinsters, Charlotte & Jane MacPherson whose remains lie beneath their headstone in a tiny private cemetery just below us.

The house was rebuilt over the next few years but tragedy struck again just over 100 years later when fire virtually destroyed the house in 1969. Sadly, the building then stood derelict, exposed to the elements for about 20 years until in 1989 our neighbours, Miggi & Jenny, purchased the site.

Two ladies of vigour & vision, they set about developing excellent holiday cottages in the old steading outbuildings just up the hill behind us and, of course, building the current Crubenbeg House.

They took great care to ensure that the house, whilst modern in its construction, was built in keeping with our rural surroundings and in a style closely resembling its predecessors. They also observed a number of features traditional to this area - the lounge, for example, has no ceiling lights, relying, as in the old days, on wall lights & standard lamps to create a relaxing environment with ample illumination.

In March 2004 we were lucky enough to buy this wonderful home - it is a tremendous place to live. With the help of a team of local craftsmen, we spent a few weeks doing what was needed, making the house even more comfortable to ensure that you and your fellow guests will enjoy your stay here.

Do come & see for yourself - we look forward to greeting you.
