Disabled Access & Facilities

We like to think that we offer a very warm welcome to guests who have disabilities and we’re pleased to be able to say that folk who have stayed with us have complimented us on the standards of our facilities and the service & assistance that we give to them.

Please take a minute or two to read through this page to see if what we have meets your needs. If you need to clarify anything at all, please don’t hesitate to give us a ring or send us an e-mail.

Pine Marten – our ground floor bedroom

Pine-Marten-06-013

We are very fortunate in that the layout of Crubenbeg House has allowed us to create a superb en-suite bedroom facility on the ground floor.

This lovely, spacious room offers you the same top class, comfortable accommodation as all our other rooms. It shares the same stunning views across the valley, indeed it also has an additional window affording lovely southerly views and making Pine Marten even lighter and airier too.

With the assistance of our builder, we created the room out of what was a reception, office, toilet & utility room. We took our time to ensure that the layout was carefully & sympathetically planned to meet the needs of our guests with disabilities and we are proud to say that we have been awarded Category One for offering accessibility to guests right up to unassisted wheelchair status.

Even more important to us are the compliments we have received from our guests, many of whom have stayed with us more than once, about just how comfortable they have been during their stays with us. Praise indeed.

When you get here

Disabled_Entrance

On arrival, once you’ve checked in, you can take advantage of the dedicated parking area just outside the room. From here a gentle ramp takes you up to your separate private entrance on the other side of which is your hallway. This also connects to the internal door through which you have level access to the rest of the house.

Your bedroom

Turning right from your entrance, there’s the spacious bedroom with plenty of room for a wheelchair to get about. You’ll enjoy all the usual features & comforts, of course, and the fact that all the facilities & equipment in the bedroom have been planned & positioned with the needs of disabled guests in mind.

The entrance arch to the bedroom is curtained, offering privacy without the inconvenience of yet another door!

You can choose either a super-king sized double bed or twin beds – either way, they are very comfortable and at the right height too. We can easily raise the height of the bed by another 3 inches, some of our guests have found that this makes it easier for them and for their carer.

There are 2 Ercol high-seat fireside chairs with a large occasional table right by the windows where you can sit & relax, read, gaze at the scenery or simply doze off.

The wardrobe has been specially partitioned with hanging & shelving at both high & low levels and its wide-opening door gives you easy access. All the sockets & switches in the room are at the required height, and the dresser & mirrors have been carefully positioned too.

Through to your en-suite

The carpets in the bedroom, hallway & en-suite have been tastefully colour co-ordinated for ease of movement by partially sighted guests.

A short trip through your hallway takes you into your stunning en-suite shower room where you’ll find a wash hand basin & dresser (with automatic hairdryer) and a very large power shower cubicle offering full wheelchair access or a small built-in seat. We also have available a freestanding shower stool, with armrests, which some our guests find easier or more secure to use.

The shower unit itself is at a handy height for both seated & standing guests and there are two poles for the showerhead too, giving you full flexibility to position things, as you need them. There a handrail in the shower and, just outside, two towel hooks at different heights - whichever suits you better.

Lastly, the loo itself - it goes without saying that it is the right one too, with all the usual handrails just where you need them!

Through to the rest of the house

Moving back into your hallway and through the internal door takes you into the main hall of the house and, from there through the kitchen to our dining room (we don’t mind you seeing behind the scenes!)

We should, however, mention that the design of the house means that the lounge can only be accessed via 4 gentle, small steps. We are more than pleased to offer you any assistance that you need if you choose to sit & relax in the lounge.

The garden

Outside, the grounds around the house are all flat, allowing you to easily get to one of the seating areas to enjoy the birds feeding, the plants & shrubs or the stunning scenery.

Eating In

You’ll perhaps have read that we offer our guests dinners thought the year, with the exceptions of July & August. We do, however, appreciate that it can be a lot trickier for our disabled guests to go back out again of an evening to get something to eat.

If this is the case for you, we are more than happy to prepare something for you by way of a supper or dinner each evening during your stay, regardless of when you choose to come.
