CRUBENBEG HOUSE SPECIAL VALUE BREAKS – JUNE 2009.

As you will have seen from our Out & About pages, there are a great deal of things to see and to do in this delightful part of the world, especially now that longer days & warmer weather are with us.

At this time of year, get some simply glorious days, just like today, with clear blue skies, some fluffy white clouds and the sun dappling on the hillsides & lochs - stunning.

Based here at Crubenbeg you will enjoy the magnificent views all around us, the peace and quiet of our rural location and, of course, our superb breakfasts.

You’ll also find that we’re very well placed to let you get everywhere very easily indeed. Ben Nevis, Loch Ness, Culloden, the Whisky Trail, Walks, Cycle Tracks, The Wildlife Park, The Folk Museum, the Funicular Railway to name but a few – all are within easy reach by car from Crubenbeg and with the added advantage of the summer crowds not having arrived just yet.

At the time of writing, our diary for June is pretty full, we have to say but we do still have an odd gap,  for a night or two that we’d love to fill. We might have to ask you for a bit of flex on your dates or may not be able to offer your first choice of room, so here’s a wee offer to make it worth your while.

CRUBENBEG HOUSE – SPECIAL INTEREST BREAKS FOR 2009

The dates for our popular Themed Breaks for 2009 are now available and we will be pleased to hear from you if you’d like to book.

This Year sees us offering Breaks covering Photography, Walking both at High & Low Levels, Hunting for Fungi, Picture Painting and Cookery.

All our Breaks this year have been chosen with you, our guest, in mind. Our objective is that you enjoy yourself, first & foremost whilst also learning a new skill or interest or developing a hobby you already have.

In addition, some of the Breaks this year are aimed at raising funds for the Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre in Inverness. For more details of why we’re doing this, why not take a look at our Maggie’s page? We hope that you’d like to come along & help us with this project.

Details of the breaks are as follows – please scroll down the page.

All our Breaks get underway on the Friday evening and end early to mid-afternoon on the Sunday. The dates shown for each break are the dates of the Friday & Saturday nights that you’ll be with us.

IRENE’S 3RD ANNUAL WALKING WEEKENDS – GAICK PASS, END TO END
WEEKEND ONE – 12th, 13th & 14th JUNE 2009.
WEEKEND TWO – 19th 20th & 21st JUNE 2009.
(Sorry, but we’re full now for the 1st weekend - 1 room still available for the 2nd.)

Back by popular demand and, for 2009, even bigger & better!! This year, Irene will be leading you on a challenging, daylong expedition from one end of the splendid Gaick Pass to the other, a walking distance of about 22 miles. This spectacular glen is one of the quieter, less trodden walks, on which you’ll be rewarded with stunning views, spectacular mountain landscapes & river scenery.

We’ll be looking for you to arrive on the Friday in time for supper, ready for an early start on the Saturday morning for the Walk. Transport to the start & from the finish is provided as is a packed lunch and, of course, one of Irene’s home cooked evening meals on the Saturday.

On Sunday, you can choose between a leisurely morning with the Sunday papers or a superb half-day local walk to ease the limbs from the efforts of the day before. It’ll be another stunning route, again not often walked, in outstanding countryside.

We’d like to invite our guests on these Walking Weekends to support our fundraising efforts for Maggie’s, by raising a little sponsorship for your walk - only if you’d like to, of course.

A WILD MUSHROOMS AND FUNGI HUNT – 11th/12th SEPTEMBER 2009.
(1 room still available)

Early to Mid September, sees an exceptional array of wild mushrooms and other fungi spring up in the woods & forests all around Crubenbeg. Such is the variety & quality, visitors from far & wide come to pick them for their Autumn larders.

One of our very regular guests, an expert in this subject and a great mushroom fan too, has offered to host this interesting weekend for us.

He’ll be looking to lead you on some very enjoyable strolls to idyllic locations, searching out the hideaways of these edible jewels, sharing his extensive knowledge with you, showing you how to pick them and prepare them for storage. On your return to Crubenbeg, Irene will share with you some excellent recipes, putting your “treasure” to good use, with you sampling and enjoying them over dinner too!!

All in all, a delightful, relaxed weekend, with some very interesting, delicious memories to take home with you.

AROUND BADENOCH – GENTLE, PEACEFUL, AUTUMN WALKS.
WEEKEND ONE – 25th/26th SEPTEMBER 2009.
WEEKEND TWO – 2nd/3rd OCTOBER 2009.
(Just 1 room left for the first weekend, 2 for the 2nd.)

We’ve had a lot of requests to provide a Walking Break for folk who prefer good, interesting walks that don’t involve too much by way of distance, ascent & descent. Our 2007 & 2008 Breaks were so popular, we had to run two!!

As you know, the hills and glens around Crubenbeg offer ample opportunities to do just that, getting off the beaten track to enjoy the stunning scenery and the peace & quiet –right on our doorstep.

At around 6.00pm on Friday evening, we’ll take a gentle stroll exploring our local tracks for an hour or so before returning for supper. Saturday will see us enjoying an inspiring walk of 4.5 to 5 hours. On Sunday morning, to round off your weekend, there will be a shorter walk before returning to Crubenbeg, then homewards.

“PICTURE PAINTING” – ESSENTIAL TECHNIQUES
9TH/10TH OCTOBER 2009
(1 room still available)

The weekend is timed to take advantage of the atmosphere & subtleties of our Autumnal weather & landscapes, but well before the clocks go back. May’s second course this year will be working with you personally, focussing on improving your technique whatever skill level you’re at. A range of media will be available – watercolour, gouache, soft pastel, oil pastel and charcoal, with a bit of printing for fun too.

As ever though, the workshop is planned to be very relaxed, utilising the palette of Autumnal colours and textures of the stunning & varied landscapes around the house. With May’s support you’ll get a newfound confidence to move your techniques forwards. May will be looking to inspire you and support you to achieve even greater things with your work.

We will get underway on the Friday evening with an introductory session at 6.00pm, followed by supper at 7.30/8.00pm. There are the 2 sessions on Saturday and a formal session on Sunday morning, allowing you a timely departure just after lunch. May will be providing all the materials for the weekend so all you’ll need to bring will be an A3 board, your easel, your stool, your beret, your smock and, of course, yourself.

KNIFE, FORK, BOTTLE CORK –30th/31st OCTOBER 2009
AN “END OF TERM” PARTY FOR MAGGIE’S
(1 room still available)

To “celebrate” the end of our 2009 season, we’re looking to hold an “End of Term Party”. Quite simply, a nice relaxed weekend to raise funds for Maggie’s.

Whilst the break is on a Dinner, B&B basis, all you pay us is for your B&B. We’ll ask you to make a donation to Maggie’s to cover your Dinners and also the wine, which is being kindly donated by House of Townend, our Vintners.

How much you donate will be your choice, we, and Maggie’s, will be very grateful.

For a laugh, both Dinners will be Fancy Dress affairs – theme to be advised nearer the time.

We do hope that you can come & join us.

IRENE’S COOKERY WEEKEND – 11th/12th DECEMBER 2009.
Plus
THE WORLD PREMIERE OF THE DVD OF JOHN’S BUNGEE JUMP FOR MAGGIE’S!!
(Sorry, but we’re already fully booked)

For some odd reason (absolutely nothing to do with watching the DVD of John do his Bungee Jump, we’re sure) this course has been fully booked since October last year!! There’s a waiting list too, so we need not take up your time with details of what the Cookery Course will cover!! Sorry about that.

For all the Weekends, non-participating partners are most welcome.

THEMED WEEKENDS - TARIFFS.

Our prices for Themed Weekends are per person, sharing & include 2 night’s Bed & Breakfast, plus lunches and evening meals as specified. We welcome single guests too, please contact us to ask for prices. If you’d like to arrive earlier or stay later, we’d be delighted, your extra day can be on either a Dinner, B&B or B&B basis to suit you, except for the Walking Weekends where tradition now dictates that we all go out for a meal in a local restaurant on the Sunday evening!
