Aviemore

Surrounded by luscious scenery and stunning landscapes in the north-west corner of the Cairngorms National Park, Aviemore is a majestic town offering loads to see and do. When staying in the Cairngorms National Park, a trip to Aviemore is essential, and there is so much for everyone to enjoy.

Aviemore is a thriving destination all year round, with popular winter activities such as skiing and other snow sports. In the summer it is an excellent place for hiking, climbing and biking. The unique location was once a small tranquil town within Cairngorm National Park, and in the 1960s it bloomed into a bustling ski resort, making it a popular destination for activities today.

Explore The Mountains
A day in Aviemore is not complete without a trip up to the surrounding mountains. Soak up the panoramic views from the peak of the Cairngorm Mountain, or head to the Rothiemurchus Estate where you can take part in many fun-filled activities.

The many mountains surrounding Aviemore are a playground for skiing, climbing, mountaineering and many more exciting activities. Aviemore is well known as the active outdoor area within the Cairngorms National Park with plenty of activities geared towards every age and ability.

Iconic Scottish Wildlife
Many native Scottish creatures can be spotted roaming around Aviemore and the surrounding areas. There is also the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of these creatures at the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre. Britain’s only free-ranging herd of reindeer live in the Cairngorm mountains, and the animals are tame and friendly for visitors to go and see.

Guided trips to see the reindeer are available, and there is a shop and paddocks that are open daily. The Highland Wildlife Park is also just a stone’s throw from Aviemore and is home to native Scottish animals and endangered creatures from all around the globe.

Strathspey Steam Railway
Right in the centre of Aviemore is the Strathspey Steam Railway, which runs trips from Aviemore to Broomhill via the Boat of Garten. On the train, there is the chance to enjoy lunch, dinner and drinks while enjoying the stunning scenery through Aviemore and beyond.
