The Cairngorm funicular railway is the only one of its kind in Scotland. It is a popular activity that allows everyone of all abilities to make the most of the beautiful views from the heights of Cairngorm Mountain.
Departing from Aviemore, the pleasant journey on the Cairngorm Funicular Railway takes you through the Scottish Highlands to the Top Station which provides guests with incredible, mesmerising views across the National Park at the height of over 3,500 feet. The Top Station features the Ptarmigan restaurant as well as an exhibition, gift shop and the highest post box in the British Isles.
With a day ticket, visitors can enjoy the twenty-minute journey up and down the mountain. There is even a cost-saving annual pass for those who are frequent visitors.
The Cairngorm Funicular Railway operates all year round usually between 10 am and 4:30 pm. In the winter, it is used for those enjoying snow sports on the mountain. Outside of the snow sports season, the funicular can be used for guests who simply want to marvel at the view from the viewing platform as well as sampling the delights in the restaurant. Visitors can also pre-book for a guided walk across the mountain. This helps to protect the plateau. So, if you want to explore the mountain on foot, it is strongly recommended to book a guided walk.
